Sweet Girl

I couldn't resist blogging about my sweet little niece Mia. I love your imagination and how you take care of your little cousin Briggs. Thanks for all the fun this Christmas

White Christmas

Hope everyone had a great Christmas weekend. We took off Thursday afternoon headed to Decatur, Illinois to try to avoid the winter storm that hit Kansas City. Good thing we left when we did because we got hit with about 6 inches of snow. We got to spend our Christmas weekend seeing lots of Greg's family that we rarely get a chance to see. It was the first time many of them got to meet Briggs and we love showing him off. Great Grandma Doris graciously let us overtake her house for a few days but I don't think she minded too much. Briggs was a great traveler and really just a good sport all around. He loved Christmas presents and got spoiled rotten with all the presents he received. We really had a great holiday weekend and feel so blessed to have family to share these special times with. Thanks Gram, Grandad, Uncle Mark, Mia, and Great Grandma Doris for all the great gifts and special memories you helped us create. We love you all.

Christmas Memories

We got to spend this past weekend in Chanute celebrating an early Christmas with the Herron side of the family. We had a great weekend all around. We did just what you should do on Christmas, wore nothing but pj's all day, ate way too much food, and spoiled the little ones like crazy. Briggs did not care much about actually opening the presents but loved the toys inside. We was actually pretty content watching whatever Lydia was doing, she is a celebrity in his eyes. He got a grocery shopping cart, a little tykes basketball goal, big tonka truck, books, clothes, and so many other things I can not even remember. Christmas really takes on a new meaning when you have a little one to celebrate with. We feel so fortunate to have such a wonderful family to share our precious little boy with. Thank you Doe Doe and Papa for hosting such a lovely weekend. Hope we did not leave too much of a disaster in our wake. You always make the holidays so special for us and the grandkids. We love you.
Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and find some time to relax and be with the people who mean the most to you.

Briggs & Mia

Mia is trying to teach Briggs how to hop with the help of Grams piano playing. Although Mia is a good helper I am afraid Briggs has not yet mastered the art of leaving the ground. Too cute!

Holiday Cheer

Sorry I am so tardy in getting a blog posted, I will blame it on Holiday insanity. Above are pictures of our first of many holiday programs that we will be attending in the next 18 years. Briggs daycare put on a Christmas program for all the little ones at the center. We were dying to see how Briggs would do after hearing he was quite a ham during rehearsals. Well he did not quite live up to his name at the real performance. We got him up on the stage and he made it through the first 4 songs and then it was all over. after spotting his entourage in the back of the room the tears and screaming ensued. I ended up hanging out with him up by the stage the rest of the performance. All in all we made it through and by a unanimous vote we did decide he was the cutest and sharpest dressed little man there!
We are getting all geared up for Christmas and finally got our tree up this week. Briggs loves all the decorations and we hear a lot of oohs and ahhs. Keeping the ornaments on the tree is becoming a bit more difficult but I think it is all part of the fun. We are heading down to Chanute on Friday to have an early Christmas celebration. It should be really fun this year now that Briggs is a bit more aware of what is going on. We will post pictures of all the festivities as soon as we get back. Really just looking forward to spending time with all the people that we love the most this Christmas.

Update

Hello all!! Figured I'd throw my hat into the ring and try this blogging thing out for myself. Sorry we haven't updated this blog lately, but we've had a lot going on with the little guy lately. Between being sick, teething, and not wanting to sleep at all, we've had some trying days and sleepless nights. Let's just say that Thanksgiving night he decided to stay up from 1:00am-4:00am and tested his daddy's patience.....I have a sneaking suspicion that that won't be the last time testing it in his lifetime either. I can already tell he's going to be an ornery one by the way he looks and smiles or laughs at you when he's doing something he isn't supposed to. I love it though...I have to admit. Who wants a boring kid really? But through it all he's been a trooper and taking it pretty well we think (thank you Children's Tylenol). We all went down to Chanute for the Herron Thanksgiving and had a great time seeing everyone!! I think Briggs was in a little bit of shock when he left because he was getting used to having 6 or more people giving him their undivided attention at all times. Not that we let him play in the street by himself at home or anything, but he constantly had something fun to do down there. It was either looking at chickens, shopping, riding in a wheelbarrow, getting a haircut (yes...again), shooting baskets, or playing outside. When we got back to KC, we passed him off to the Tomlinson side and Sara and I were able to go on a mini-date of dinner and Xmas shopping at Zona Rosa. Sunday was our annual family Xmas trip to the mall....I try to go only once a year. We knocked out most of our shopping and Briggs was fantastic during the entire time. He was either sleeping in his stroller, pointing at balloons, or just people watching which is always fun to do at the mall. This weekend we are going to pick out his first real Xmas tree and will hopefully have some pics for you real soon (um...Sara...that's up to you).

Sick & Tired

We finally had to experience being the parents of a sick little one this weekend. We had been so lucky that Briggs had never been sick his whole first year of life. On Thursday he came home from daycare with a temperature of about 101 but we assumed teeth. After not having a temperature in the morning we sent him to daycare on Friday. We got a call about 3 that his fever had spiked again. We spent much of the weekend just loving on our sweet little boy and making sure he had everything he needed. Nothing is worse than seeing your little one so sad and uncomfortable and not have the power to fix it. Makes me appreciate all the love, sick beds, ice cream shakes, and Pay Day games my parents gave me during all my sick days. Briggs stayed home with Gram Tomlinson today and is making good progress. Greg and I are really hoping for some sleep tonight and crossing our fingers that he decides to grant our wish.

On Tuesday evening we are heading down to Chanute for a long holiday weekend. Can't wait to see everyone and just relax with the family. Hope you all have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

1 year pictures

Briggs, Greg, and I got our first family pictures taken about two weeks ago. I was very nervous about how they would turn out because Briggs was a nightmare on the day we took them. It was one of those moments as a parent when you think oh my god of all the times to act like a crazy person you picked now. Needless to say we made it through with only a few tears, two very frustrated parents, and I am sure a worn out photographer. We appreciate all your hard work Angie. We think the pictures turned out great and I can't help but smile everytime I look at them. Hope you enjoy.

Haloween Treats

Briggs eating a cupcake at his halloween party at school. Yum!!

Happy Halloween

Trick or Treat. Briggs had a very busy Halloween weekend. He started Friday at his school with a party and costume parade. Grandma Tomlinson and Grandma and Grandpa Herron got to stop by to see our sweet little bumble bee. By the time I got there he was a sweaty little bumble bee on the verge of a breakdown.

Saturday we spent the day getting ready for our neighborhood Halloween festivities. Briggs and Lydia were pulled in the wagon around the neighborhood by 7 crazy adults. I am pretty sure people really did think we were crazy as we pulled into their driveway. Quite an entourage for 2 little bugs. We had a great turn-out of trick or treaters, we did not count but I am sure we had at least 200. The kidos were all so cute and we surely supplied them all with enough candy to keep them on a sugar high for weeks. Thanks to everyone who helped us celebrate our busy weekend.

Photo Shoot

We had a photo shoot in our backyard with Briggs and Lydia on Saturday. Getting them to sit still and together was quite a chore but we were able to snap a few good ones. Briggs loves Lydia and thinks that she is about the greatest thing ever. Watching them play is so sweet and reminds me of how much fun I used to have with all my cousins. I think they communicate using their own language I just wish I knew what they were saying. Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween. I will be posting our trick or treat pictures soon.

School Days

Sorry no new photos to post this time we have not had a good one lately. Hard to snap a decent photo when he is constantly moving. Briggs has a had a big week since Monday he transitioned from the infant room to the 12-18 month room at school. We were a bit nervous about him leaving all his wonderful teachers and sweet little friends but he has really done awesome. He now eats at a real table and feeds himself. His teacher has reported that Briggs is one of the best eaters and sits perfectly at the table. Another big accomplishment is that he has went from taking two naps in the pack and play to taking only an afternoon nap on his own little mat on the floor. I actually got to see him snoozing on his mat the other day and it melted my heart. He looked so little curled up with his blanket. There is the cutest little girl in his new class and I am keeping my eye on her I think she may have the hots for Briggs.

Promise to have vidoes and photos soon. Hope you all have a Happy Halloween.

Nurse Nightingale

Briggs was a lucky little boy today and got to spend the day with his Grandma Herron. He was feeling a little under the weather on Sunday and we were not sure if he should go to daycare. Doe Doe saved the day and made the trip up here to take care of our little patient. Besides a late night Briggs was really feeling great today. I think the sickness may have been a hoax just so he could spend the day with his Grandma. They had a great time and were able to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather. Here our a few pictures from there day together. Thank you Doe Doe we love you and appreciate all the tlc.

Run Daddy Run

We spent Saturday morning rooting Greg on at the Kansas City 1/2 marathon. After months of training Greg completed his half marathon in the cold, dreary weather. He completed the 13.1 miles in 2 hours and 2 minutes. Briggs, and I along with Greg's parents cheered him on along the course. Briggs loved watching the runners and even recognized Greg as he ran passed us. He was such a trooper in the cold and in and out of the car. Hope that someday he will be able to join us on our runs.

Well Briggs is officially 1 year old. We have celebrated all we could possibly celebrate a birthday for a little boy. The pictures on the last post were from Briggs actual birthday. Greg and I both took the day off and took Briggs to Deanna Rose Farms. It was a beautiful day and Briggs loved the goats and chicken.

On Sunday we had a family birthday party for Briggs. All the Grandmas, Grandpas, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins came in full force. It was such a nice day and we loved being able to share our sweet little boy with everyone. We thought that Briggs would really tear into his cake but he actually took it pretty easy. A little out of character for such a food lover. He received so many nice things. It was so funny we he came down stairs this morning I think he had forgot about his new toys and he was so excited to see them like it was the first time. Thank you to everyone for all the birthday wishes, gifts, and love for Briggs big day. What a lucky little boy!

Happy Birthday Briggs Patrick

I can't believe that my little boy is going to be one whole year old. When I think how much our lives have changed in this past year I feel a bit overwhelmed with joy and happiness. I had no idea that this little being that lived in my belly for nine months would lead us on such a journey. Someone told me when I was pregnant that having a baby would be the best and craziest roller coaster ride of our lives, god were they right. I feel so blessed that not only do I have the most wonderful son in the world but I have a wonderful man as my husband and Briggs father to share this life with. I kind of feel like I won the lottery with this amazing family I have been given. I love you Greg and Briggs and can not wait to many more years of happiness together.

Master Baker

Briggs helped me to make a birthday cake for Greg's birthday on Sunday and what a great helper he was. He did not love the mixer as you can see from his pouty face below. The cake was great and I will take Briggs as my sidekick in the kitchen any day.
